Based on Voltaire’s satirical masterpiece, Candide follows the journey of a young man who is determined to follow his tutor’s philosophy of absolute optimism – ‘all is for the best in this best of all possible worlds’. However, his beliefs are severely challenged when he leaves the sheltered environment of his home to embark on an epic journey across 1950s America…The sensation of La Scala, Milan, Robert Carsen's new production of Bernstein's musical masterpiece is the most spectacular show in ENO's history. The cast and orchestra of over 100 includes Anna Christy, Alex Jennings and, as Candide, Toby Spence.
The role of Cunegonde will be taken by Anna Christy (performances from June 23-29) and by Marnie Breckenridge (July 2-12).

About The Coliseum
Until the recent restoration project, no substantial programme of repair has been carried out on this historic London landmark since it first opened its doors in 1904. The London Coliseum, which is London's largest theatre, is cited as being architect Frank Matcham's crowning achievement. In its 100 year history it has played host to many forms of entertainment, including horse races, musicals, variety, cinema and, since 1968, opera.Travel
Nearest Underground: Leicester Square (Piccadilly/Northern lines)/Charing Cross (Norther/Bakerloo lines)From Leicester Square head south down Charing Cross Road towards St Martin's Place.
From Charing Cross head towards Trafalgar Square. Take the north east exit from Trafalgar Square to St Martin's Place.
The London Coliseum is at the bottom of St Martin's Lane, on the junction of St Martin's Place.
