Hop aboard the Safari Bus or the Great Whipsnade Railway, meet the new pride in Lions of the Serengeti and visit the two baby elephants on the downs. Whipsnade Wild Animal Park is one of Europe's largest wildlife conservation parks. Set in 600 acres of beautiful parkland on the Chiltern Hills, north of London, the Park is home to more than 2,500 animals, many of which are endangered in the wild.
TRAVEL
Whipsnade is just north of London in Dunstable, Bedfordshire.
By car: Only 20 minutes from the M25 (junction 21), Whipsnade Wild Animal Park is signposted from the M1 (junction 9 and junction 12) and all major roads - just follow the elephant on the above map
By bus: For bus services from Luton and Dunstable call 0870 608 2608. Green Line Buses from London Victoria to Hemel Hempstead (summer only and not on Sundays) call 0870 608 7261
By train: The nearest stations are Luton Parkway and Hemel Hempstead Boxmoor (both about 10 miles away from the Park)
ACCESS
Disabled access: Cars are not permitted in the park for the open evening, however, disabled badge holders and vehicles will be granted access to the site at no extra cost.
Alternatively, if transport is not essential, carers are permitted to accompany disabled visitors to the event for free.
Wheelchair accessibility: Most of the park is lined with paved footpaths and roads suitable for wheelchairs, however the nature of a couple of the enclosures may make them unsuitable for wheelchairs, such as the woodchipped path in the Woodland Bird Walk.
Disabled Toilets:There are four disabled access toilets in the park, as marked on the Day Planner map available at the main gate and information kiosk.
PARK OPENING HOURS
ZSL Whipsnade Zoo is open every day except Christmas Day. The Zoo opens at 10am. Closing times vary according to the season, but generally it is until 4pm in winter (Nov - Feb) and 6pm in summer (Mar - Oct).
During the winter period visitors will be allowed to bring their cars into the Park free of charge until the external car park is re-opened.
