Lacock Abbey Wiltshire - Sunday 6th July 2008

Bringing together these GIANTS OF JAZZ for a superb outdoor concert in the beautiful surroundings of Lacock Abbey.

KENNY BALL

Kenny Ball is a legend. Probably the greatest test of an artist's success is his durability. Kenny is now a genuine institution, and the most successful jazz trumpet player this side of the Atlantic. His landmark recordings of the 1960s such as 'Midnight in Moscow' catapulted him to worldwide fame, and since then he has become a living legend.

ACKER BILK

Acker Bilk gained worlwide fame with his hit singles 'Stranger On The Shore' in 1962 (it stayed in the charts for 55 weeks and was the first number 1 hit in UK and USA simultaneously) and 'Aria' in 1976. Acker Bilk and his Paramount Jazz Band are one of the most succesful British Jazz Groups ever. In 2001 Acker was honoured with an MBE for his services to the Music Industry.

TERRY LIGHTFOOT

Terry Lightfoot has been at the forefront of the British jazz scene since 1956 when his band played its first major concert at London's Royal Festival Hall. His first band was formed in 1955 and quickly became "box office" on the London club scene (to this day they still hold the attendance record at London's 100 Club in Oxford Street). That year, Terry was to play alongside Louis Armstrong with a select band of UK musicians at a welcoming dinner in honour of the great Satchmo at a Soho restaurant. The encounter was not forgotten by Louis who invited the Terry Lightfoot Band to share the bill with the Armstrong All-Stars for the "Hello Dolly" tour of the UK in 1965.
