Chess − a fascinating game, head to head, move by move, till one of the players is checkmated. At a chess tournament in New York, the American world champion Frederick Trumper and his Russian challenger Anatoly Sergievsky go head to head in a game that will change both of their lives. The aggressive Trumper is dethroned as world champion and loses his second, Florence Vassy, to Sergievsky, while the latter decides to defect to the West. A year later, the opponents meet again in Bangkok.
Shortly after the break-up of the Swedish supergroup ABBA, the bands two male vocalists Benny Andersson and Bjrn Ulvaeus took the world by surprise with an extraordinary project.
Together with Tim Rice, they had written a musical, which premiered in London in 1986. Chess, with hit songs like One Night In Bangkok and I Know Him So Well, is now on stage in Dresden for the very first time.

The Dresden State Operetta is one of the few light musical theatres in Europe.
The theatre is unique for cultivating the legacy of Johann Strauss.
The State Operettas varied programme of operettas, light operas and musicals focuses on classics such as The Beggar Student, The Csrds Princess and The Land of Smiles, but also The Magic Flute, the swing musical Anything Goes and the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar.
