The Sound of Music is a musical with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse.

It is based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. Songs from the musical that have become standards include "The Sound of Music", "Edelweiss", "My Favorite Things", "Climb Ev'ry Mountain", and "Do-Re-Mi".

The original Broadway production opened in November 1959, and the show has enjoyed numerous productions and revivals since then. It has also been made into an Academy Award-winning 1965 movie musical.

    Located on King Street West, at John St, the Princess of Wales Theatre is in the heart of Toronto's Entertainment District, steps from such major attractions as the CN Tower, the Rogers Centre (SkyDome) and the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

    By Car: If you are arriving by car from out of town, the Princess of Wales is only a few blocks north of the Gardiner Expressway (the QEW, to and from Hamilton, Niagara and Buffalo). Exit the Gardiner at Spadina and turn right (east) on King Street.

    There are four levels of parking located beneath the Princess of Wales, with an entrance ramp off John Street. An elevator takes you from the parking garage to the theatre entrance on King Street West.

    By Rail: Visitors arriving by rail can walk from Union Station. It's a ten-minute walk west along Front St. to Simcoe, and north on Simcoe to King; or you can take the subway from Union Station one stop to the St. Andrew Subway Station.

    By Subway/Streetcar: Easily reached by subway and streetcar. The Princess of Wales is just a few steps west of the St. Andrew Subway Station (at the intersection of King Street and University Avenue), and the King Street streetcar stop.
