Tour Departs from the Piazza del l'Esquilino Bus Terminal

During this tour you will visit the Via Merulana, St. John in Lateran, The Holy Stairs, Appian Way, The Catacombs and The tomb of Cecilia Metella.

Visit St. John's Church. In Lateran this means the 'Mother of all Churches' and was built undre the emperor Constantine, the first Christian Caesar, and renewed by Bor-romini in the XVII century. On the eastern side of the Piazza di San Giovanni in Laterano, a building desing by the Domenico Fontana hosts the 'Holy Stair'. With the 28 steps ascended, by Christ in Pontius Plates' house during his trial and are supposed to be brought from Jerusalem by St. Helena, the Emperor Constantine's mother. You will also visit Appian Way, which was built in 312 b.c. Domine Quo Vadis Chapel, - Catacombs.

Many of the tombs from the 1st and 2nd century a.c. have no Christin connection. In the burial chambers there are fres-cos of both Classical and Christian scenes. In Rome there are 120 kilometres of catacombs, which you will visit. Cecilia Metell's tomb is one of the most famous along the Appian Way. Built for the noblewoman Cecilia, whose father and husband were rich and successful patrician generals of the late Republican Rome.

You will need to bring your tour voucher to present when you arrive at your destination. You must take the voucher along on your trip; it is your proof of purchase. On the day of your tour, the voucher may be redeemed for actual tour tickets at the Appian Line Bus Terminal before your tour can begin, or you may present your voucher to the driver at the time of your pick-up.

Hotel pick-up is available for hotels in central Rome. The exact time of your hotel pick-up will depend on the location of your hotel and may be some time earlier than the scheduled departure time.
