Explore the world in one day at the Royal Ontario Museum. With almost six million objects in its collections, the ROM is Canadas leading international museum. Located in the heart of Toronto, the ROMs collections span both world cultures and natural history.
To enter the Museum, use the Loblaws Entrance, located on the south side of the building. WHATS ON: The Power of One: Earth Rangers School Visits Program Every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday The Power of One, School Visit extended version, presented by TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, is scheduled regularly in the studio on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Canadian Content: Portraits by Nigel Dickson Until March 21, 2010 Discover Nigel Dickson, an international award-winning photographer with work published in numerous celebrated magazines. Presented by the Institute for Contemporary Culture, Canadian Content: Portraits by Nigel Dickson brings a remarkable selection of arresting, insightful and witty photographs of famous Canadians. Coffee & Smokes in Medieval Yemen Until July 2010 From the 9th to 17th centuries, the people of Zabida city at the south end of the Arabian Peninsulaenjoyed an upscale urban life. Inspired by the research of ROM archaeologist Ed Keall, Coffee & Smokes in Medieval Yemen offers a glimpse into the luxurious pastimes of life in medieval Zabid. East Asian Paintings & Prints: Recent Acquisitions Until July 4, 2010 See over 40 never-before-seen historical and contemporary artworks from Korea, China and Japan acquired by the ROM in the past 12 years through carefully considered gifts and purchases Hamra Abbas: Read Until January 17, 2010 The ICC presents another contemporary artist's response to the Dead Sea Scrolls, to provide a multi-faith perspective on their continued resonance today. In Read, rising young artist Hamra Abbas has created a dramatic hanging sculpture with imbedded speakers playing sounds of Pakistani children reciting lessons in a madrassah (an Islamic religious school). Joshua Neustein: Margins Until January 17, 2010 Concurrent with Dead Sea Scrolls: Words that Changed the World, Margins is a newly commissioned contemporary artwork by artist Joshua Neustein that explores themes and ideas suggested by the scrolls. This installation shapes a dialogue with the Scrolls' historical, religious and cultural traditions. Wedgwood: Artistry and Innovation Until August 29, 2010 Classic design and changing styles are featured in this beautiful exhibition of nearly 100 of the finest Wedgwood wares in Canada. DIRECTIONSPublic Transportation The ROM is located at the Museum stop on the Yonge-University-Spadina subway line. The St. George stop on the Bloor-Danforth subway line is also nearby. Visitors can also take the Avenue Road Bus #5 south from the Eglinton subway station. For more information on public transportation, see the Toronto Transit Commission website, or call 416.393.4636. Driving Directions If you are driving on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), follow the Gardiner Expressway to Spadina Avenue. Proceed north on Spadina Avenue to Bloor Street West and then turn right (east). Proceed east on Bloor until you reach Avenue Road/Queen's Park. The Museum is on the southwest corner of Bloor Street W and Queen's Park. From Highway 401, take Avenue Road south to Bloor Street West or take the Don Valley Parkway south to the Bloor Street West ramp and proceed west along Bloor Street to Avenue Road.
