UNLIKE many fashion designers, Roberto Cavalli is a man whose interests range wide. In fact, compared with his peers, he can be seen as one of fashion’s few renaissance men. He is a painter, qualified pilot, farmer, zoo keeper, wine grower, a twice married family man, as well as a designer for both men and women. But perhaps even more surprising is the fact that everything he does reaches his self-imposed gold standards. Not that his fame was instant, however.

Cavalli had worked as a highly successful designer in Italy for years long before the rest of the world began to sit up and take notice. International fashionistas had barely learned how to pronounce his surname before he had shot up the ladder of Italian fashion and was jostling those other exuberant stars of colour, wit and style, Donatella Versace and Dolce & Gabbana.

From there, it was just a short step to red carpets, It girls and pop stars, not to mention the myriad customers who loved the way his designs made them look - and also feel - supersexy. And it is an upward movement that continues today based, as it always has been, on the Cavalli sense of colour, fabric and cut, all of which combine to bring a unique mixture of drama, grace, raunchiness and glamour to his runway.

Tickets from Travelodge<dcterms:modified>2008-05-09T13:00:09-00:00</dcterms:modified><geo:lat>51.51564000</geo:lat><geo:long>-0.14327000</geo:long><geourl:latitude>51.51564000</geourl:latitude><geourl:longitude>-0.14327000</geourl:longitude><icbm:latitude>51.51564000</icbm:latitude><icbm:longitude>-0.14327000</icbm:longitude>

Renaissance Faces: Van Eyck to Titian exhibition tickets, National Gallery, London

For the first time ever, this exhibition will trace the development of fifteenth- and sixteenth-century portrait painting, in both northern and southern Europe side by side.

'Renaissance Faces' will feature many of the great masters of the Renaissance, including Leonardo da Vinci, Titian, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Holbein, Cranach, Van Eyck and Dürer. The exhibition will comprise around seventy paintings, along with medals, sculptures, drawings and engravings.

'Renaissance Faces' will explore issues of likeness, memory and identity, examining portraits which were commissioned in connection with courtship, friendship and marriage – including self-portraits of artists themselves.

The evolution of the full-length portrait, and an examination of the relatively unexplored area of counter-portraits and the anti-ideal, will be highlights of the exhibition – along with rare loans and new research into the works on display.
Renaissance Faces is organised with the Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid.
A libertine, his lovers and a perilous dinner party; sex and promiscuity are all good fun until someone loses a parent. The legend of the world's greatest lover meets the controlled madness of Kneehigh Theatre.

After their sell-out production of Cymbeline delighted audiences during the 2006 Complete Works Festival, Kneehigh return to Stratford-upon-Avon with a new production inspired by Mozart's opera, Don Giovanni. Kneehigh are a driving force in contemporary British theatre. Their joyous, compelling and physical storytelling has entranced audiences throughout the UK with productions including Tristan & Yseult, Nights at the Circus, Rapunzel and Brief Encounter, currently playing in the West End.

Tickets from Travelodge<dcterms:modified>2008-05-08T16:17:48-00:00</dcterms:modified><geo:lat>52.19060000</geo:lat><geo:long>-1.70390000</geo:long><geourl:latitude>52.19060000</geourl:latitude><geourl:longitude>-1.70390000</geourl:longitude><icbm:latitude>52.19060000</icbm:latitude><icbm:longitude>-1.70390000</icbm:longitude>

Romeo and Juliet theater tickets, Courtyard Theatre, Stratford Upon Avon

Romeo and Juliet directed by Neil Bartlett.
This boldly theatrical new staging of Shakespeare’s fast moving story of two teenagers torn apart by their families' vendetta reunites director Neil Bartlett and designer Kandis Cook, the creative team behind last year's acclaimed Stratford-upon-Avon production of Twelfth Night.

'A drama which asks big questions launches this year's Travelex £10 season. Simon Russell Beale is in commanding form.'
Daily Telegraph

Major Barbara works tirelessly for the poor at a Salvation Army shelter until a large but morally dubious donation is welcomed from her estranged father, a millionaire weapons manufacturer. But when she visits the factory itself, the well-fed workers in their thriving model town make a devastating case for arms trade profits and a whole new set of ideals.

Nothing is ever done in this world until men are prepared to kill one another if it is not done.

The National’s recent production of Saint Joan (Best Revival, Laurence Oliver Awards 2008) suggested that Shaw may be our most provocative contemporary playwright.

Simon Russell Beale plays the millionaire, Undershaft, in this radical state-of-the-nation play which confronts the big questions with brutal panache.

The greatest of evils and the worst of crimes is poverty… our first duty – a duty to which every other consideration should be sacrificed – is not to be poor.

Attend me, I am past my depth in lust
And I must swim or drown.

As he holds the skull of his beloved – who rejected the licentious old Duke’s advances and so was poisoned – Vindice plots the Duke’s grotesque murder. But in a court where adultery, rape and incest are the norm, his vengeance does not stop there. An orgy of ritualistic, even playful, bloodletting follows.

Were’t not for gold and women there would be no damnation.

A ferociously dark play by Thomas Middleton, set in an avaricious world that seethes with vice and retribution.
Following his Olivier award-winning performance in The Man of Mode, Rory Kinnear returns to play Vindice.

A man who has everything. Money, friends, a happy home. And then – pfft! It’s all vanished.

Max Reinhardt, one of the greatest impresarios of theatrical history, had a lifelong ambition – to dissolve the boundary between theatre and the world it portrays. Each year at the Salzburg festival he directed a famous morality play, Everyman, about God sending Death to summon a representative of mankind for judgment. The victim he chooses is a man who, like Reinhardt, rejoices in his wealth and all the pleasures that money can buy.

Then in 1938 Hitler declares his own day of reckoning and sends Death into Austria – whereupon Reinhardt, a Jew, is left as naked and vulnerable as Everyman himself. Michael Frayn’s Afterlife is the story of how Reinhardt achieves his great ambition; though in a way he can scarcely have foreseen.

Roger Allam, last seen at the National Theatre in Michael Frayn's Democracy, plays Reinhardt.

None of us knew what we were doing, of course. At the beginning of the Great War the world was a ripening peach, and we were eating it. And looking back how lovely we were, and so earnest, and innocent.

Harold Macmillan, the Eton-educated idealist who rushed, with Homer’s Iliad under his arm, to do his duty in the Grenadier Guards, is tormented by the harsh experiences of war and an unhappy marriage. His career in the 30s is blocked by his loyalty to Winston Churchill and he nearly loses his life in the Second World War. When at last he becomes Prime Minister he is brought down by he Profumo scandal.
This production marks the first time the tale behind the music has been acted out along with the music.

Franz Abraham’s production of Carmina Burana was first launched in 1995 and has wowed audiences since, including a performance on Copacabana beach in Rio to an audience of 100,000 people.

Abraham commented on his production coming to London: “The British public will never have experienced anything like this production of Carmina Burana. The breathtaking set, dramatic performances from both a world-class orchestra and choir, along with first class actors and dancers will leave many open mouthed. I have enjoyed seeing people moved by Carmina Burana across the world and it is only right that it is now experienced by a UK audience.”

David Campbell, Chief Executive of AEG Europe, owners and operators of The O2 commented: “Carmina Burana at The O2 will be a totally new classical experience that will knock the senses. The arena will be transformed by the celebrated set and will offer music fans a classical concert like no other they will have witnessed before.”
Carmina Burana will be followed soon by large scale productions of other major classics.
About Art Concerts
Founded by Franz Abraham in 1986, ART-CONCERTS is currently regarded as Germany's most innovative and one of its most successful production and event-organising agencies.

The Idea: To present music in new, lively contexts and to create music-events for thousands of people are the challenging tasks which ART-CONCERTS have taken upon itself. To burst old boundaries, creatively connect musical worlds and create new experiential spaces: concepts like these characterize the spirit that change visions into reality.

The enterprise's ambitious philosophy was first translated into reality on a large scale during the "ART PROJECT" festival. The concept of this festival involved inviting selected representatives of the most important musical genres to present themselves and their music during the "ART PROJECT" festival. Jazz and classical, rock and avant-garde united as mutually inspiring expressive forms of music in a fruitful dialogue with one another. The idea and its realization were warmly welcomed on the international scene, e.g. in Copenhagen in 1992 and in Munich in 1996.

Since its founding, ART-CONCERTS has organized hundreds of individual concerts and tours in Germany and throughout Europe featuring outstanding artists in all musical genres. The history of our concerts reads like a "Who's Who" of the music business: from The Rolling Stones (in Munich's Olympia Stadium in 1995 and 1998) to Placido Domingo (at Munich's Königsplatz in 2000).

"Out of the temples of the muses: classical music on the green grass!" This idea was the starting point which developed into our concept for monumental productions and ultimately led ART-CONCERTS create a new genre:

Music-theatre events presented at historic sites as cultural events of the highest quality for audiences from all walks of life.

Tickets from Travelodge<dcterms:modified>2008-05-01T14:03:07-00:00</dcterms:modified><geo:lat>51.50170000</geo:lat><geo:long>0.00310000</geo:long><geourl:latitude>51.50170000</geourl:latitude><geourl:longitude>0.00310000</geourl:longitude><icbm:latitude>51.50170000</icbm:latitude><icbm:longitude>0.00310000</icbm:longitude>

Download 2008 Day Tickets festival tickets, Donington Park, Derby

Get ready to rock with DAY TICKETS to this year's Download at Donington Park - ONSALE NOW!
