The popular TV presenter, pianist and bandleader will perform live in front of the racecourse's biggest ever crowd of up to 10,000 spectators next summer.

Tickets are now available here for the gig by Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, which will be part of the CFM Summer Family Festival evening meeting on Saturday July 3.

The 90-minute set will get underway around 9.15pm once the evening's horse racing has finished. The entertainment will then be rounded off with a spectacular fireworks display set to music.

All three elements - horse racing, live music and fireworks – are included in the ticket price of just £15 or £20.

John Baker, the racecourse's managing director, said "We are really excited to have such a legendary and respected musician as Jools Holland as our headline act for the CFM Summer Family Festival. It's a fantastic all round value-for-money event.

"We are confident that our biggest ever crowd of 8,000 to see Tony Hadley perform here back in 2006 will be smashed. We received really positive feedback after Escala performed at this year's CFM Summer Family Festival, so we set our sights on topping that in 2010 - and I think we have.

"We are sure the people of Cumbria and beyond will turn out in record numbers for what should be a superb evening's entertainment. Tickets will make great Christmas presents and guarantee a place at what should be an evening to remember."

More than 7,000 people attended last July's CFM Summer Family Festival featuring Escala. The racecourse has been enjoying a rise in attendances this year, with crowds up nearly 20% despite the recession. Even yesterday's Countryside Day meeting drew 3,500 spectators despite atrocious weather which saw an inch-and-a-half of rain fall during the day.

Jools' orchestra will include Gilson Lavis from Squeeze on drums, special guest vocalists Ruby Turner and Louise Marshall as well as skaand reggae legend Rico Rodriguez on trombone.

The event is being supported by Stobart.

Jools is no stranger to Cumbria, having performed sell-out gigs at the Maryport Blues Festival and more recently at The Sands Centre in Carlisle in August this year.

The musical maestro sprang to fame in the 1970s aged 15 when he formed Squeeze with Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford. Their hits included Up The Junction and Cool For Cats. After co-presenting The Tube on TV with Paula Yates, Jools formed The Jools Holland Big Band in 1987 and this has gradually morphed into the current 20-piece band, with organist, drummer, three female vocals, guitar, bass guitar, two tenor saxophones, two alto saxophones, baritone saxophone, three trumpets, and four trombones. They play live in front of more than 500,000 people around the world annually.

Jools' career as a recording artist has also seen him collaborate with performers like Sting, Tom Jones, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Bono, Joe Strummer, KT Tunstall, Robert Plant, Smokey Robinson, Sugababes, Ringo Starr and Peter Gabriel.

Tickets from Premium Tours<dcterms:modified>2009-11-20T17:07:21-00:00</dcterms:modified><geo:lat>54.85768900</geo:lat><geo:long>-2.93058200</geo:long><geourl:latitude>54.85768900</geourl:latitude><geourl:longitude>-2.93058200</geourl:longitude><icbm:latitude>54.85768900</icbm:latitude><icbm:longitude>-2.93058200</icbm:longitude>

Drawing Portraits Workshop Event Billetter, National Portrait Gallery, London

Explore portrait in pencil in this one day or two evening workshop on drawing techniques, faces and portraits with visits into the gallery, experiments and intensive observations.
Alceste is a work of high quality, the mature creation of a great musical dramatist, but for reasons which remain obscure, the production planned for Covent Garden Theatre was cancelled and the music was never performed in the context for which it had been designed.

Alceste is clearly theatrical music and demands stage presentation. The first ever performance was given by the English Bach Festival at the Banqueting House on the 13th of June 1984, then the following day at the Opéra Royal, Château de Versailles, and later recreated at the Linbury Studio, Covent Garden, to bring the music for the first time to the location, if not the actual theatre, for which it was composed.

Conductor: Nicholas Cleobury
Production by Tom Hawkes
Choreography by Sarah Cremer
Costumes by Terence Emery

'The style and quality of performance are just the reminders needed of the special place this dauntless enterprise still holds in our musical life....' - Max Loppert Financial Times

'The dance event of the month....' - Nicholas Dromgoole' Sunday Telegraph

Pioneers since 1977 as 'guest company' at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the English Bach Festival breathes life to the operas of Purcell, Handel, Lully, Rameau, Gluck and presents them with magnificent costumes, elegant dance and the period instruments for which they were written. It has given the opportunity to see great works outside the usual repertoire, many of them for the first time at the Opera House, including some premieres in our time.

Tickets from Premium Tours<dcterms:modified>2009-11-20T17:07:21-00:00</dcterms:modified><geo:lat>51.50452485</geo:lat><geo:long>-0.12580309</geo:long><geourl:latitude>51.50452485</geourl:latitude><geourl:longitude>-0.12580309</geourl:longitude><icbm:latitude>51.50452485</icbm:latitude><icbm:longitude>-0.12580309</icbm:longitude>

Prague Winter Festival Pakketure, Various Venues + Hotel, Prague

This exclusive Prague Winter Festival package from includes:

Now firmly crowned as a modern day classic, this iconic production is perhaps best-known for replacing the traditional female corps de ballet with a menacing male ensemble. Matthew Bourne blends dance, humour and spectacle with extravagant, award-winning designs by Lez Brotherston, to create a provocative and powerful Swan Lake for our times.

Collecting over 30 international theatre awards including three Tonys, SWAN LAKE has been acclaimed as a landmark achievement on the international stage. It has become the longest running ballet in the West End and on Broadway and enjoyed four hugely successful tours in the UK and thrilled audiences all over the world.

Tickets from Premium Tours<dcterms:modified>2009-11-20T17:07:21-00:00</dcterms:modified><geo:lat>53.47078100</geo:lat><geo:long>-2.29545600</geo:long><geourl:latitude>53.47078100</geourl:latitude><geourl:longitude>-2.29545600</geourl:longitude><icbm:latitude>53.47078100</icbm:latitude><icbm:longitude>-2.29545600</icbm:longitude>

Torvill & Dean's Dancing On Ice Live Event Billetter, LG Arena, The NEC, Birmingham

Torvill & Dean's Dancing on Ice Tour returns to arenas across the UK next.
