Morning - Lakeshore, Forest and Bird nature walk

Departing Queenstown at 8am this half day, morning walk combines the best of native flora and fauna with magnificent lake and mountain views. Native birds are readily seen and heard, in and around the edges of the forest.

Walking time: 2 to 3 hours (optional)
Walking distance: 2 to 5kms (optional - easy walking)
Track: Well-formed - flat surface - some steps
Highlights:Spectacular lake and mountain views and. A variety of bird life close at hand and easy to view.

Afternoon - Boutique Wine Tour of Central Otago

After your leisurely morning nature walk you will be dropped in central Queenstown to meet up with your Appellation Central guide. Your afternoon is spent discovering some of Appellation Central's favourite boutique vineyards, tasting some of the region's fine wines and enjoying a gourmet platter style lunch in a vineyard. A maximum of ten adults on this afternoon wine tour ensures a relaxed and personalised experience in wine country.

Travel north from Queenstown passing through the fruit growing area of Cromwell then Lindis Pass and the McKenzie Country. There will be a stop for lunch at Mount Cook Village (participants must make their own lunch arrangements) located at the foot of New Zealands highest peak Aorangi (Mount Cook).

Depart Christchurch by coach traveling northwest across the rich and fertile plains to the Waimakiriri Gorge and River.

Following a briefing and distribution of spray jackets, hats and life jackets, board your jet boat for the thrill of a lifetime. Journey 15 kilometres up one of New Zealands major snow-fed rivers known locally as the Waimak. Travel upstream through wild terrain, weave in and out of rock faces, white water rapids and high walled canyons to Pig Gully.

Next, board a custom-built Mercedes Benz Unimog vehicle which negotiates a steep climb up from the river before connecting with a section of the original Stage Coach route. Travel this route across the 35,000 acre sheep station Mt .Torlesse, one of Canterburys largest high country stations. This region is rugged, isolated and full of colourful history. Your Unimog ride ends at Springfield where there is time to enjoy a delicious lunch before continuing on to Arthurs Pass.

Arthurs Pass Village is central to the Arthurs Pass National Park and boarding point for your train journey to Christchurch.

Travel north from the city over the Auckland Harbour Bridge. Then travel via the Hibiscus Coast towards Whangarei, New Zealands most northern city. Finally, well reach Paihia in the Bay of Islands.

En route (if time permits) a stop will be made at the Parry Kauri Park to view a magnificent stand of NZ native Kauri Trees. Upon arrival at the Bay of Islands, your first stop will be the historic Waitangi Treaty Grounds where the Maori and Europeans first came together to sign a treaty of understanding formalizing New Zealands future as part of the British Empire. A magnificent Maori meeting house and large war canoe are also on display here.

Board a high speed catamaran on a cruise via the Bay of Islands to the famous Hole-In-the-Rock on Piercy Island. The hole is large enough for the boat to sail through (subject to weather conditions) and also rich in marine life. Whales, dolphins and hundreds of sea birds diving into huge schools of fish are common sights during this trip. A picnic-style lunch will be served on the boat along with an informative commentary detailing the history of the many islands of the bay.
