"Tips Appreciated," takes a small but brave audience on a bus tour led by Patty, a disgruntled tour guide, and Pearl, a novice tour guide, to the somewhat lesser-known points of interest in San Francisco. Some of the stops include getting to know the quiet side of the Tenderloin, seeing what's really going on in the Financial District at night, and learning about the city's underground, rarely seen mushroom people. Historical information presented at these stops are not always factually based. But the humor behind Patty's facts and the frictional interaction between a seasoned tour guide and a novice allows the audience to discover a new affection for San Francisco that can't be found in any tour books.

"Tips Appreciated" is a play created by Mercedes Segesvary that uses as its venue a 15-passenger Biodiesel Vans. During the two-hour performance audience members embark on a tour specifically designed to see the sights of San Francisco that other tour companies miss like the Financial District, the Tenderloin and even the SOMA District. The show also partners with local wineries for a chance to do a wine tasting and the tour finishes off at one of Patty's favorite hangouts. The show has been described as a chance to see the most beautiful city in the world as if you had a friend that lived here.

The Yosemite Park Hotel Tour begins with a complimentary pick-up from your San Francisco accommodations. After a scenic drive through the coastal mountains and the Central Valley, we arrive at Yosemite. Once in Yosemite, your guide will give you a 1 1/2 hour narrated tour of Yosemite Valley and surrounding areas.

Yosemite Valley is approximately 1 mile (1.5 km) wide and 7 miles (10 km) long. During this part of the tour, we make numerous stops for you to enjoy, photograph and appreciate the spectacular beauty that is Yosemite. You will see the valley from a number of great vantage points, the best of which is perhaps Inspiration Point at 4,500 feet above sea level. Yosemite is a mecca for rock climbers, and the sight of people climbing El Capitan's 3,000 ft (1 km) sheer rock face is quite amazing (seasonal).

The High Country of Yosemite ranges from 8,000 ft. to the peak of Mt. Lyle, which is over 13,000 ft. tall! From Glacier Point (seasonal), you can get a bird’s-eye view of the valley from 3,000 ft above. In addition to the spectacular views, you can take a hike to the top of Sentinel Dome or Taft Point. On one of the two days, you will have the opportunity to hike amongst the giant sequoias, the largest living things on the planet. This plant species is found in one area of the world only, the western slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

We stay at Cedar Lodge, which is situated in the picturesque Merced River canyon. Because your quide stays at the same hotel, we can offer you a truly guided tour. There’s no need to waste time waiting for bus transfers to get to/from the park, so you can see more of Yosemite. The Lodge has such creature comforts as a restaurant, bar, two swimming pools, a jacuzzi, and private beach access on the Merced River. The river flows cold and heavy in the spring and early summer but is comfortable to swim in during August and September.

Three days of hiking and camping is the focus of our Yosemite Escape Camping Tour.

Day 1
In the morning of the first day, our guide will meet you downtown at the corner of Mason and O'Farrell Streets in front of the Hilton Hotel at 6:45 am. Once out of San Francisco, we stop to purchase fresh food for our time in the park. Once we have all of our provisions we will cross the Central Valley and through gold country on our way into the mountains. Before reaching Yosemite, we hike down for a picnic amongst the giant sequoias - the largest living things on earth. The hike through the Giant Sequoias is pleasantly shaded and brings you right up close to these massive wooden monuments, some of which are over one thousand years old and measure up to 30 ft. wide & 300 ft. tall. Continuing into the park on a 1 1/2 hour guided tour, we descend into Yosemite Valley, the most famous and picturesque part of Yosemite, with some of the world's tallest waterfalls and incredible vistas made famous by the photographer Ansel Adams. While in the valley, your guide will give you an orientation to the park as well as an explanation of the itinerary and options for the next two days. After some free time in Yosemite Valley, you will head for the campsite to set up the tents and cook a delicious meal, ending the day with some drinks around the campfire as you decide what to do with your next two days in the park.

Day 2
Rising early, we prepare breakfast and lunch, clean up camp, and head off in the van for a fun day full of hiking, sightseeing, and exploring. Usually the second day is reserved for exploring Yosemite's High Country. A group hike to May Lake and Mount Hoffman is the highlight of this day (depending upon snowpack). May Lake is a picturesque example of a High Sierra Lake. If you want more of a challenge, you can continue past May Lake to Mount Hoffman. Located at the geographic center of the park, Mount Hoffman is a non-technical hike that rewards you with a 360-degree view of the surrounding mountain landscape. At the end of the day we head back to camp for dinner and time to unwind by the campfire.

Day 3
Day three is a free day, where the itinerary is based on the interests of the group. Normally we head into Yosemite Valley, where you can choose one of a number of great hikes, rent a bike, or relax in the shade by the emerald green Merced River. After a full day in the park, we head back to San Francisco, arriving around 9pm.

In May, June and early July, you have the option of joining a whitewater rafting trip on the Merced River (depending on snowpack). This Class III-IV adventure can be added to your Yosemite Escape Adventure for only an additional $140-160.

Camping
Camping is easy, but cooperation is important. Don't worry if you've never camped before; many people haven't. We supply the camping and cooking equipment necessary for a trip of this nature, using quality tents, camping and cooking equipment (you will need a sleeping bag). Everybody is expected to participate in the set-up and breakdown of camp, and our professional guides are there to ensure a positive camping experience. We camp at comfortable campsites that have hot showers and modern facilities. Swimming is available nearby.

Food
We provide the food, but not the chefs. You guys are the cooks, waiters, dishwashers, and of course the guests. After leaving the city, we stop at a supermarket and buy everything we need. The fare is all-you-can-eat and very tasty, and is a mixture of chicken, beef and vegetarian. Most people eat better with us than they do on the rest of their travels.

Transportation
We use comfortable 15-passenger vans with dual air conditioning and stereo sound. Our vans are fueled by biodiesel, a vegetable oil-based diesel fuel, to promote green business. All of our vans have large roof racks for your luggage and the camping equipment.

Meeting Location and Time
Our guide will meet the group at 6:45 am at the corner of Mason and O'Farrell Streets in front of the Hilton Hotel. There are many bus lines that run directly by or near this central location. The closest BART and MUNI stop is the Powell Street Station (2 blocks away).

Sleeping Bags
You will need a sleeping bag. If you don't have one, we will rent one to you for $30 for the two nights.

What to Bring
You will need sneakers or hiking boots, shorts, t-shirts, swimwear, sun protection, a water bottle, flashlight, and some warmer clothes in case there is a change in weather.

Weather
June through September in Yosemite is hot and sunny with occasional afternoon showers. May and October days are warm with cooler nights. As in all mountain environments, weather can be unpredictable, so bringing a layer of warm clothing is a good idea.

The day begins with a pick-up from your lodging between 6 and 7 am and heading east across the Bay Bridge offering great views of San Francisco Bay, the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island and Fisherman's Wharf.

We stop for a quick breakfast in the Central Valley. Famous for its rich volcanic soil, the Central Valley is a booming agricultural region known for almonds, grapes, tomatoes, peaches and strawberries. After breakfast we continue our journey up through the cattle and horse ranching foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains to the American River.

The Class III whitewater action begins immediately with Meatgrinder rapids, followed by other exciting cascades including Racehorse Bend, Rock Garden, Triple Threat and climaxed by a mad dash through the famed Troublemaker rapid. Our trip ends as we pull ashore back at camp where your guides prepare a tasty barbeque lunch.

After lunch, there is time to play some beach volleyball and relax by the river. We think it's important to get a real feel of the Gold Country, so we will take to you to a local winery to taste some liquid gold. The tour ends back at your hotel between 6:00 and 6:30 pm.

Starting our tour at the Carlton Centre, the top of Africa. From the 50th floor we can view Johannesburg and get an idea of which direction our walking tour will take us.

Explore the inner city on streets lined with a combination of historic and modern buildings where new incorporates the old. A stroll down Main Street Mall with its creative architecture in the form of old mining equipment takes you back into the early beginnings of the City of Gold. The artwork on Gandhi Square reminds us of the citys multicultural roots.

Next we make our way to the vibrant Newtown Precinct where we visit a diverse range of historical and cultural sites. We visit the highlights of Newtown including the Mary Fitzgerald Square where we look inside one of the last colonial compounds now the Workers Library and Museum. We head to the bustling city of Johannesburg, the hub of South African business.

Entering Jozi affectionately named by the locals, our first stop is the highest building in Africa. The Carlton centre was built in the 1960s and is 50 stories high. From the viewing deck at the top of the building we are able to get our bearings of this vast city.

Our next stop is the Apartheid museum. The one of its kind museum depicts the rise and fall of apartheid in South Africa.

We make our way to Soweto in time for lunch and try the local cuisine. After lunch we get together at the starting point of the Soweto bike tour. You will be introduced to Soweto; its history and its people. More than three million people are living here speaking all the of 11 official languages of South Africa, you will be taught some of the most common phrases to be able to greet people as you are cycling along the streets.

Speaking and interacting with the locals at a real level and not from the comfort of a closed vehicle. Learning about the different cultures and history of this famous city. Go to places such as a former migrant workers hostel for men. Here you will be introduced to the culture and life today by our local guide. Continue to Meadowlands, famous for the forced removals from Sophiatown in the 1950's.

Cycle through historical landmarks of the 1976 student uprisings and visit the memorial site of Hector Pieterson. You will also cycle down Vilakazi Street where Nelson Mandela used to live and where Bishop Desmond Tutu has his home.

Path to a Hidden Monastery Sightseeing Billetter, Urban Adventures, Kathmandu

Rendezvous at the courtyard of Kathmandu Guest House at 7 a.m. Walk to the nearest bus-stand (15 mins).

Get on the local transport and hobnob with the locals to Buddanilkantha (30 mins approx), the site of the sleeping Vishnu (Hindu God of preservation). Observe the magnificently carved stone idol of sleeping Vishnu from the outer periphery of the pond (non-Hindus are not allowed inside), on which seems to float the sleeping Vishnu- get your cameras out, lend your ears to an interesting story about the sleeping Vishnu.

Start the hike through the verdant farmlands into Kathmandus nearest forest reserve - Shivapuri National Park (15 mins approx). After registering yourself at the park entry gate, take the path through the woods, which makes for a pleasant walk, to a hidden Buddhist monastery- Nangi Gompa (2.5 hrs approx), set on a pedestal atop the hill offering wide angle view of the Kathmandu valley. If youre an avid bird-watcher, youll have a field day!

Descend down the hill and continue to hike through the woodlands emerging out of the forest reserve at Sundarijal. Enjoy the sights of waterfalls and follow the pipeline to the end point of the hike at the bazaar (1 hr approx). Again, catch a local transport back to Kathmandu (1 hr approx).

To respect this and for your own comfort, we strongly recommend modest clothing. This means clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Loose, lightweight, long clothing is both respectful and cool in the predominantly hot Asian climate.

In many rural areas in Asia women will need to wear modest clothing even to swim. Singlets, tank tops and topless sun bathing are all unacceptable. When visiting religious sites men often need to wear long trousers and women a long skirt or sarong.

Early wake-up and head straight to places of worship on foot. First up is Swoyambhunath, follow the path of Hindu and Buddhist devotees, circumambulating the holy stupa and spinning the prayer wheels.

The mesmerizing wafts of incense, hypnotic chants of prayers and surreal sound of ringing bells will give you the spiritual high. Spiritually awakened, you would later stroll through the maze of backstreets to Kathmandu Durbar Square, its numerous temples and its market.

Pick the fresh vegetables, purchase the aromatic spices and all the necessary ingredients (its your choice and well put all our confidence in you to find the right ingredients!). Well-stocked and well-prepared (at least mentally!), you would head to your host family. Lead the way or lend the hand as your hosts unveils the secrets of Nepalese cooking- Bon Appetit!
