Boy band and chart toppers JLS are the headline act for Haydock Park Racecourse's music night on 19th June.

Runners-up in the X Factor in 2008, their first two singles have gone to the top of the radio airplay charts, and the group have just released their debut album which sold half a million copies in three weeks.

The most successful new group of the year, they embarked on a UK tour to sell-out audiences in December 2009.

Irish pop group sensation, WESTLIFE are the second band confirmed for the Sandown Park Music Nights this summer. Performing live after racing, the crowds will be able to enjoy hits from their latest album ‘Where we are’ as well as a mix of their classic songs.

Westlife, who are starting a UK summer tour this year called ‘The Where we are Tour’, is made up of Mark Feehily, Shane Filan, Kian Egan and Nicky Byrne. The group is the only act in UK history to have their first seven singles go straight to Number 1 and have since gone on to sell over 45 million records worldwide. It has also been announced that they are the "second biggest selling artist" and the "biggest selling band of the decade" in the UK.

Spending much of 2009 hidden away in studios across Europe and the US, Westlife have been quietly creating their most exciting album to date. ‘Where We Are’ features work from pop’s finest craftsmen, including Grammy nominated Ryan Tedder (Leona Lewis, Beyonce) Steve Robson (James Morrison, Take That) Steve Booker (Duffy) Louis Biancaniello and Sam Watters (Whitney Houston, Anastacia.) and Shaznay Lewis, who co-writes a track with band member Mark Feehily.

Westlife are at peak performance, match fit and ready for the second chapter of their incredible history!

Tickets include access to an evening of thrilling racing, commencing at 5:40pm, after which the concert will start from 8:45pm (approx).

Mikhailovsky - Giselle Teatterilippuja, London Coliseum, London

The stage life of Giselle wasn't an easy one. After the premiere of 1841 featuring Carlotta Grisi and Lucien Petipa, the ballet was performed in France till 1863, when it disappeared from the repertoire. Giselle was forgotten in its motherland but became a most frequently shown ballet on the Russian stage. In 1842, the ballet was staged in St.Petersburg. At the beginning of the 20th century during the ground-breaking Diaghilev’s Russian Seasons, the French saw their national ballet, faithfully nurtured in Russia.
The Mikhailovsky Theatre’s 2008 production of Giselle by Nikita Dolgushin, a specialist in historical works, managed to amaze both the public and the critics. Dolgushin, a noble Albrecht in his time as a dancer, inspired the creation of the ballet and delicately united dance and pantomime. The choreographer revealed the essence of the romantic ballet: the story of Giselle is told in the language of ballet classicism. Together with Vyacheslav Okunev, who designed the epitome of romantic settings, Dolgushin created a production that was described by a British critic ‘an exemplary Giselle’.

Mikhailovsky - Swan Lake Teatterilippuja, London Coliseum, London

Swan Lake is the jewel in the repertoire of the Mikhailovsky Theatre and the highlight of its London season in 2010. This is a revival of the historical Bolshoi Theatre staging in 1956 - an exquisite production with choreography by Alexander Gorsky and Asaf Messerer. The triumphal restaging of this Swan Lake at the Mikhailovsky Theatre in September 2009 was devised by Mikhail Messerer, the company’s ballet master in chief. The epoch of Alexander Gorsky saw the next phase in the evolution of dance following the ballet classicism of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov. The staging boasts the superb sets and costumes by renowned Russian theatre designer of Georgian origin, Simon Virsaladze. The legend of a young prince finding his true love, a swan princess bewitched by an evil genius, offers all the dancers of the company a great opportunity to show their talents.

This ballet enchants you from its very first minute. The harmony of the melodic and ear-catching music by Karen Khachaturian, bright sets and costumes by Valery Leventhal and vivid choreography by Genrikh Mayorov, perfect both for children and for grown-ups, made it a real blockbuster. In London, an extra element is added: specially for the noisy auditorium of chattering youngsters a narrator will deliver the storyline and introduce the characters. The fairy-tale story by Italian author Gianni Rodari tells of the adventures of the Little Onion boy (in Italian, Cipollino), who fights the unjust treatment of his fellow vegetable folk (his little girlfriend Radish, old Mr Pumpkin, handyman Master Grape) by the fruit “aristocracy” (foppish Prince Lemon, martinet Signor Tomato and Countesses Cherries). Even though the ballet was created especially for young people, it never lacks “serious” choreography of classical ballet. The principals of the Mikhailovsky Ballet really enjoy themselves turning from Siegfrieds and Odettes into ‘vegetables’ and ‘fruits’. The rhythms of dance, the portrayal and humour of the characters and the exceptional performances will keep everyone enthralled.

An exhilarating performance showing the talents of the Mikhailovsky dancers, it was greeted with countless curtain calls and critical appreciation when they made their London debut in July 2008. This season the Triple Bill programme contains Halte de Cavalerie (Cavalry Halt) by Marius Petipa, giving the audience a second chance to see the classic gem created in 1896 to music by Ivan Armsheimer, and a new piece created especially for the Mikhailovsky Ballet by Viacheslav Samodurov to music by Domenico Scarlatti. The Divertissements will crown the programme. They include Asaf Messerer’s thrilling pas de deux Spring Waters to the music of Sergei Rachmaninov, staged by Mikhail Messerer and a pas de deux from the Mikhailovsky’s production of Spartacus choreographed by Georgy Kovtun. It is a great opportunity to see both contemporary and classical ballets performed by true virtuosi.
